Onscreen is a key part of Rock Quest Promotions and it’s stable of events and programs which make it one of NZ's largest providers of development events and opportunities for creative youth in Aotearoa.

Onscreen successfully delivered a free-to-enter nationwide programme that was accessible to any interested student across Aotearoa, offering a Junior section as well as high school. OnScreen was implemented into media studies, English and drama classes, as well as completed extra-curricular by passionate student filmmaking teams. We also worked with mentors in the film industry to deliver wrap around support to students for all stages of their filmmaking journey.

Throughout the year, we had 239 student filmmaking teams self-register and 29 teachers register groups. This meant we engaged with 311 student filmmaking teams from 65 schools, and over 1700 students across 14 regions of New Zealand. This led to a record 204 completed films in 2024 – a 55% increase from 2023.

The feedback from students and teachers is very encouraging:

“The best part was working on a project that had a purpose (aside from just experience) & getting the opportunity to have that project seen by professionals who gave feedback.” – student

“The OnScreen competition is a carrot for the creative process. The chance to showcase their work, receive feedback, and possibly win recognition was a significant motivator. OnScreen encourages them to connect with the broader filmmaking community and recongise a context for the work that they create.” – Teacher

We want to thank all our sponsors, funding partners and event supporters, who along with our successful teams for 2024 and past years can bee seen on our website at https://www.onscreen.co.nz/
